Brand/Generic: Lasix/Furosemide
Aldactone is another medication that may be prescribed.
Description/Purpose: Water pills – decreases the amount of fluid the heart has to pump. . Side effects:
- Leg aches or muscle cramping from low potassium levels
- Voiding frequency and urgently. Have a rest room available.
- Dizziness, fainting, headache.
Drug interactions:
- May administer with food or milk to decreased stomach distress.
- Emergency preparedness: Plan events knowing that restrooms are available.
Other info:
- Teachers should be made aware that if the child needs to use the restroom they should be allowed to do so when needed. The student should not be required to wait any period of time since the onset of action is 30-60 minutes after taking the pill.
- The pills should be taken in the morning or early afternoon since taking at night will cause broken sleep.
- Your physician will determine if potassium is needed.
