[edit] Swollen gums
Calcium channel blockers (e.g., Procardia) may lead to gingival overgrowth (GO). Vigilant brushing of teeth and gums, flossing, use of a prescription mouthwash and more frequent dental visits may reduce symptoms or slow progression. Excess tissue may be removed via periodontal surgery. An appliance exerting pressure on the gum tissue worn at night, like a mouth guard, may prevent or reduce the reoccurrence of GO.
